Transition to the 2020-21 School Year
As we transition to the 2020-21 school year, the school division will provide important information to families here on our Return to School website.
Students Will Return to School on September 8 in Stage 2: Virtual Learning for Most + In-Person Access for a Limited Number of Students
At the special school board meeting on July 30, division staff presented five stages of returning to school for the 2020-21 school year. Options presented for the board's consideration were developed in accordance with guidance provided by the state, public health officials, and the school division’s
Return to School Planning Guide and ranged from a fully virtual model to a return to in-person learning for all.
Ultimately, the board approved starting school on September 8 in
Stage 2, which includes virtual learning for most students and in-person access for a limited number of students. For more information, view the
July 30 slide presentation (PDF); read our
community message; and view our
news release. For details about our stages of returning to school, including the transition between stages, please visit our Stages of Returning web page.

Virtual Town Hall Recordings Now on YouTube
The three virtual town halls hosted by members of the School Board are now available to watch on YouTube. More than 1,000 parents, students and employees joined Board members to discuss their concerns and suggestions about the reopening of schools on September 8:
Return to School Intent Form
On July 20, a student-specific link to our Return to School Intent Form was sent to the primary parent/guardian email address on file for each student. Parents are asked to complete one intent form for each ACPS student in their household, even if they completed our Learning and Transportation Preferences form in June. The intent form asks parents to select the learning option their child will participate in if our school buildings reopen for in-person learning on September 8 and to indicate their transportation plans and level of home internet access.
Note for Gmail users: If you are having trouble locating our email, please search for "ACPS-Surveys@k12albemarle.org" as the sender or "Learning & Transportation Preferences - Confirmation Form" as the subject.
Return to School Planning Update: Scheduling Considerations and Scenarios
