PARENT SEMINARS are offered at Albemarle, Monticello, and Western Albemarle High School. Attendance of this 90-minute informational training session by a parent or guardian is mandated by the DMV in order to complete the Driver Education requirement for licensure under the age of 18. Topics covered include Virginia traffic law, licensing, coaching, and insuring teen drivers.
BEHIND-THE-WHEEL (IN-CAR) DRIVER TRAINING FOR TEENS will be offered in the morning from 7:30-8:30 am and in the afternoon from 4:00-6:00 pm weekdays throughout the school year. *During daylight savings classes will be held 1 hr. instead of 2 hrs. Please visit the link shown on the drop down menu at left to view schedules for each school. Cancellations or delays due to inclement weather will be shown on this page. Generally, if school is delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather, Behind the Wheel instruction is delayed or cancelled as well. Students will be notified directly of any exceptions to this rule. Tuition is $250.00, ($275.00 for Summer) and is payable in installments. Payment must be paid in full prior to licensure. Changes and/or cancellations are accepted two weeks prior to the class start date, less a $25.00 administrative fee. There are no refunds for cancellations within two weeks of the start date of the class.
Weather policy: When school is closed there is no in-car instruction. If school is delayed 1 or 2 hrs., morning class will be delayed 1 or 2 hrs. BTW which is scheduled during study hall is cancelled if study hall is not held due to a modified schedule, and resumes during the next full study hall class period. Any afternoon cancellations will be announced at the end of the day. If school closes early: no BTW. (School closings: 296-5886 or check County web page at www.k12albemarle.org).
