Foreign Language Academies
Foreign Language Academies are residential summer programs for rising juniors and seniors. There are six academies:
Based on school size, each high school is allocated a specified number of applicants. Albemarle High School may submit two applicants in each of the four languages taught (French, Spanish, German, Latin) and one applicant each in Japanese and Russian. Monticello, Murray, and Western Albemarle High Schools may submit one applicant in each of the six languages. Selection is solely competitive; there are no guaranteed placements. A state selection committee makes all admission decisions.
Application components for the immersion academies (French, Spanish, and German) include the written application, audio tape, and composition. The Latin application includes the written application, grammar test, and composition. Russian and Japanese applications include an essay and written application.
Each high school administers its own Foreign Language Academy selection process; no division selection is required. For more information about Foreign Language Academies, contact the Foreign Language Department Chair in each high school.
